Chapter One Test July 7

Set-up ---> seven multiple choice and four problems to solve. About 30 marks.

You should be able to do questions like: (in no particular order)

Set-up ---> 13 multiple choice and 9 questions to solve of mixed degrees of difficulty.

Make sure you can handle the questions listed above especially projectile motion and be able to do it for a given angle. If you can't do it kiss 5 marks good-bye!
Horizontal projectile motion & projectile motion at an angle to the horizon
Be able to draw a free body diagran, add vectors and resolve a vector unto the x, y axis.
Finding the coefficient of friction and using the coefficien of friction to determine either an applied force frictional force or velocity of an object.
Remember that friction acts against an applied force so direction of friction must be determined in the problem.
Tension found in cables which hold up an object
Objects being pulled at some angle, forces must be resolved
Finding the acceleration of an object subjected to frictional forces; object probably slows down and stops.
Using centripetal acceleration equations
Using the gravitational equation; satellites in orbit, you should be able to determine forces and speed of the satellite
Car travelling on a curve; is it a flat curve, only friction is holding the car; is it banked? then the force of gravity holds the car and so will friction. Solve problems of this nature by doing gravity and friction separately then add to get the total "holding force"

All conepts, principals and equations from previous chapters may be required in these chapters
Calculating work give mass distance force
Make sure you can resolve a force at an angle to the horizon into its horizontal and vertical components.
Simple calculations involving the kinetic energy and potential energy equations
Make sure you can switch between gravitational potential energy and kinetic energy
Energy lost when an object slows down, type and determine an amount
Calculating momentum and impulse
Do you know what recoil is?
Being able to solve collision problems
Three types: sticky 1-D and 2-D (where you work with angles)
Also, each of the above may be elastic or inelastic.
Collision vectors; which way do they go after collision?
Gravitational forces acting on planets and satellites; several types of problems
1. Gravitational field strength
2. Orbital speed and path traced by a planet
3. How do period and radius relate
4. Reducing of the g factor as r increases.
  Remember that r is from the center of the Earth of planet
5. Escape velocities
Bouncing balls and linear momentum
Springs and force constants
Be very cognitive of the applets, especially the lab exercises
